Bobcat will be highlighting its new 500 family platform compact loaders during bauma 2013. In the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, the 500 family comprises six new generation models: the S510 (pictured), S530, S550, S570 and S590 skid-steer loaders and the T590 compact tracked loader. The new loader models are said to have been designed to continue the global success of Bobcat, where nearly one out of every two skid-steer loaders on the market is said by parent company Doosan to be a Bobcat machine.

Caterpillar has developed its 312D/D L Series 2 excavator as a durable machine with low operating costs for sale in developing markets. Power for the 312D/D L Series 2 excavator comes from a Cat 3054C diesel rated at 67kW that meets Tier 2 and EU Stage II emissions regulations. The new model is available in standard and/or long undercarriage configurations, with operating weights from 12.9-13.9tonnes depending on the specification.

The new Cat 434F backhoe loader is solely mechanically controlled, while its fellow new backhoe model, the Cat 444F, is equipped with pilot joystick controls and can be fitted with either a 4.27m or a 4.87m backhoe. The upgraded machines are part of Caterpillar’s development of its equal sized tyre (EST) machine range in line with the rest of the F Series product family.

Volvo Trucks has updated its FMX construction tipper range, first launched in 2010. The latest FMX adopts the Euro 6 engine line-up introduced earlier this year in the firm’s on-highway FM and FH trucks, with D11 offerings at 246-335kW and D13 engines delivering 313-402kW. Rigid hauler manufacturer Perlini is setting up three new manufacturing businesses in China, Brazil and Russia, working with local partners to supply these growing markets. This is a new approach for the Italian family-run firm, which began setting up the new deals two years ago after a change in management. “Our old management was very conservative,” said managing director Maurizio Perlini. “But it was a case of go with partners or close the company. We did not have a choice.”

Caterpillar’s seventh generation 988 wheeled loader – the 988K – is powered by a Tier 4 Final/Stage IV Cat C18 ACERT diesel engine, featuring selective catalytic reduction and delivering 362kW. The engine is said to deliver a 20% fuel efficiency benefit compared to the 988H, thanks in part to an ECO mode with on-demand throttle, auto idle and engine idle kickdown/auto resume system. The 50tonne machine moves away from its predecessor’s monoboom loader arm design in favour of a Z-bar linkage.

VF Venieri has diversified from its traditional range of smaller machines to launch the 18-63, a 19tonne, 3.5m3 wheeled loader. Though this is the most widely sold type of machine in the world, Venieri believes its new machine can forge a place for itself, according to managing director Filippo Muccinelli.

Caterpillar continues to build its mining shovel business with the launch of the 6020B, a 220tonne model offering a 22tonne bucket payload, which makes it an ideal match for the 777G rigid dump truck. The machine has a large operator’s cab with three seats, enough for a trainer and an observer, which is said to be a first in this size class.
