The bypass around the Slovakian town of Ružomberok, which was supposed to be finished this summer, faces a delay of more than four years. The bypass is part of a 15.2km stretch of the D1 highway between Hubová and Ivachnová. Ružomberok, with a population of around 45,000 including its surrounding area, is in the Liptove region in northern Slovakia. It lies around 260km from the Slovakian capital Bratislava.

Serbia is in talks with China for construction of the Preljina - Boljare section of the pan-European Corridor XI. The section will connect Corridor XI to Corridor X. Corridor XI will run from the Montenegrin port of Bar to Belgrade and on to Bucharest, Romania. Corridor X links Salzburg, Austria, with the Greek Aegean port of Thessaloniki port, via Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Macedonia. This includes the construction of a motorway bypass of Belgrade.

The cost for Romania’s newest bridge project over Danube River will likely be around €500 million, according to the latest media reports. Planning and design of the bridge is expected to take 18 months followed by 36 months for construction. The Bridge could be up to 23km including approach roads, depending on routes and geological conditios. It will be built between the towns of Braila and Jijila, in the Dobrogea Region, southeast Romania.

The Vietnamese city of Hanoi is set to benefit from a series of bridge construction projects, which are intended to reduce the city’s chronic traffic congestion. Bucharest has attained the unenviable title of being Europe’s worst city for traffic congestion during 2017. This comes from research by GPS technology provider TomTom, which revealed that the city’s traffic problems have worsened since 2015.

Germany has seen an increase in road deaths during the first six months of 2017. The official figures show more than 1,500 people were killed in road crashes in this time period, an increase of 6.2% from the first six months in 2016. The number of road crashes in Germany also increased by 2.7% to 1.28 million for the first six months of 2017 when compared against the same period in 2016.

A new road project is now to be carried out in the German city of Ludwigshafen, The project involves the reconstruction of the Hochstraße Nord road. Approval for the work has been given by the German Federal Ministry of Transport, which is also providing €154.2 million for the project.
