Paraguay increased its spending on road repairs during 2017. The country’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) spent around US$800 million on road repairs and maintenance during the first 11 months of 2017. The country aims to increase its budget for 2018 to $1 billion. The development work will see Paraguay increase its total network of surfaced roads from 5,000km to 7,650km by the time the current administration finishes its term in office.

Construction work is starting in Pakistan on the new E-35 Highway project.

India is setting out plans for major road development works in the 2018-2019 period. Highway building projects worth a total of US$9.25 billion are being planned. The work is being planned by India’s National Highways Authority (NHAI). Some 10,000km of national highways will be built in the time period. In all contracts for 25,000km of roads will be offered for tender.

A series of major expressway projects are under construction in China's Shaanxi province. The five expressways will improve transport links for six cities. Costing US$1.46 billion, the 75km Hancheng-Huanglong expressway should be ready for traffic in 2022. The 124km Xunyi-Fengxiang expressway is costing $2.12 billion and should be ready for traffic in 2020. Due for completion in 2021 is the 51km Ningshaan-Shiquan expressway, a project costing $1.12 billion. The $2.58 billion Yanchang-Huanglong expressway

The tendering processes for a series of road repair contracts in Puerto Rico will now will recommence.

Colombia is moving ahead with its 4G programme, as nine of the 30 key projects in the road development scheme now financially secured. The remaining 21 projects are now being built, while 25 of the projects from the 1G, 2G and 3G schemes are already in use, having expanded Colombia’s network by a total of 3,743km. Colombia's National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) says that 10 projects are being carried out entirely with private funding. In addition, over the last seven years, 48km of tunnels and 430 bridges

Parsons will handle the design work for a new bridge in Indiana carrying the SR 249 route. The bridge will replace an ageing structure carrying George Nelson Drive across the US 12 Dunes Highway, as well as two rail lines at the town of Portage. The design-bid-build project was awarded by the Indiana Department of Transportation. The existing bridge carries around 10,000 vehicles/day of which around 40% comprises freight carrying heavy trucks. The bridge link is critical as this is the only major entrance

The first session is being held in Livermore, California on February 13th, 2018. The two firms have joined efforts to provide opportunities designed to allow construction industry professionals to learn best practices in constructioneering, a process of managing and integrating survey, engineering, and construction data, to streamline construction workflows and improve project delivery.
