Subsidies worth more than €228 have been granted by the European Union for the construction of the S6 expressway section to link Slupsk with Gdansk. Also, around €77 million from the EU has been granted for the A2 section between Warsaw and Minsk Mazowiecki. The S6 section will be almost 41km long and will cost over €470 million is expected to be completed in October 2021. The 15km A2 section is due to be ready in June 2020 at a total cost of €193 million.

A new report highlights the enormous economic potential for infrastructure in Latin America. According to the new report from analytics specialist GlobalData, the infrastructure sector in Latin America could reach a value of US$175.8 billion by 2020. The report suggests that the total value of infrastructure spending in Latin America will reach $142.5 billion in 2019. Completion of the Lagos to Ibadan highway upgrade in Nigeria will not occur until 2021. The improvement work was initially to have been delivered by 2017. However a string of delays to the work have resulted from insufficient funds and from contractors leaving the jobsite. The current Nigerian Government has now cleared the debts for the project. Work is underway in the US state of Delaware to upgrade the US 301 highway route. The 24km route is benefiting from the installation of the latest open-road tolling technology as part of the US$636 million improvement project, which is being managed by the Delaware Department of Transportation.

A series of major road contracts have been awarded in Paraguay, although delays are being seen on one key link. The country’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) gave its approval for a series of road contracts to be awarded. These four packages are worth over US$136 million and are for18 different sections.

Financing has been secured for road rebuilding work in Ecuador. The Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) will provide US$192 million for road maintenance work. The deal was agreed with Ecuador’s Ministry of Transport and Public Works. As a result of the deal, road repairs and improvements will now be carried out in Napo, Manabí, Esmeraldas, Chimborazo, Canar, Azuay and Orellana. New construction machines, 43 in all, are being supplied for the work.
