Yeti Snow Technology, a developer of autonomous snow clearance systems for airports, will scale back pilot projects this winter and focus on software development.

Eurovia UK and Academy of Robotics are entering into a partnership to trial the use of Academy of Robotics' Kar-go AI technology for road maintenance. The partnership will see Eurovia UK testing the use of Kar-go technology to automate the delivery of small plant equipment, tools, materials and other components to and from a highway work site as well as the potential use of data collected by Kar-go as it travels, to determine the condition of roads.

New safety rules are being introduced for vehicles in Europe. From 2022, new models of car sold in Europe will need an interface which enables an alcohol interlock to be fitted if, for example, required by a fleet operator or law enforcement. The reason for this change is that several EU countries require convicted drink-drivers to install alcohol interlocks in their car, and that process is complex and costly at present. Ireland’s road safety levels are improving, but perhaps more slowly than is desirable. In 2018 there were 142 road deaths in Ireland. A significant improvement over the last 20 years where compared with the 458 road deaths in the country seen in 1998. Of note is that for 2014-2018, 25% of all fatal crashes and 20% of crashes involving serious injuries occurred during the 22.00-06.00 period when traffic volumes are typically low. In addition, 75% of crashes occurring from 2013-2016 in the 22.00-06.00 period

There is concern in Oman over the risk of crashes on the country’s road network. There were 545 road deaths in Oman during 2018. Road crashes are now one of the leading causes of death and serious injury in Oman. Of the 545 road deaths seen in 2018, 466 saw victims dying before they could be taken to hospital.

A new 225km expressway link in Vietnam will help boost connectivity between the Mekong Delta area in the south east of the country and Ha Tien Province. The project for the Ha Tien-Rach Gia-Bac Lieu expressway is expected to cost US$1.2 billion. The expressway will feature two lanes in either direction and will also connect with Vietnam’s National Highway 1A.
