Co-Cities (Cooperative Cities) is a new EU-funded project aims to improve current traffic information management in cities and urban areas. But what is different about this approach is that it involves end users being able to report their feedback to the traffic management.

While the market for fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) has been slower to develop than many anticipated a few years ago, major automakers including Toyota, Daimler, GM, Honda, and Hyundai have all publicly stated that fuel cells are a critical piece of a complete clean vehicle portfolio.

Within the next two years, Hong Kong plans to deploy a new pollution detection system based on ultraviolet and infrared sensors to measure carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbon concentrations in exhaust fumes from LPG and petrol-powered vehicles. The detectors will be portable and located at five different areas daily. Some 100 streets and roads have been shortlisted by environment officials for the devices, which will also record the speed and registration number of vehicles and photograph them

The French interior ministry has announced that there were 3,980 road deaths in France between 1 November 2010 and 31 October 2011. This is the lowest number recorded since 1945. In October 2011, there were 377 road deaths, a 6.4 per cent decline on October 2010. There are currently some 42 million licenced drivers in France.

Polaris Industries has announced the acquisition of Goupil Industrie, a privately owned, France-based manufacturer of on-road, commercial electric vehicles, built on a modular design that offers many functional options and appeals to a wide variety of customers. The move will add Goupil vehicles to Polaris’ growing small electric vehicle product portfolio, while becoming part of a global brand will expand Goupil’s reach, both within and outside its existing European sales base. Goupil, which reported approx
