Innovative asphalt recycling and road maintenance solutions from Simex draw on the levers of savings, innovation and environmental sustainability.

Asphalt additive specialist Iterchimica started developing ‘green’ products that help reduce carbon emissions and conserve resources long before it became an industry-wide trend.

Established in Lugo in 1948, VF Venieri (Venieri) has always kept its HQ and production facility in Emilia-Romagna’s Motor Valley. The company’s mission is to supply earthmoving machinery renowned for its high performance, productivity and flexibility, coupled with very competitive TCO (total cost of ownership).

The 31st SaMoTer construction machinery exhibition and co-located Asphaltica held at the Veronafiere Exhibition Centre in Verona attracted more than 40,000 specialist visitors from 91 countries over the event's five days (3-7 May 2023). Guy Woodford was among the world's many trade media in attendance. He sat down with SaMoTer event manager Sara Quotti Tubi to get the inside track on this year's event and the evolution of the Italian industry showpiece.

Bitumen is changing,” says Massimo Menestrina, CEO of Menestrina, which manufactures specialist bitumen processing plants. Menestrina is at the forefront of these changes. Its air-blowing and polymer modification technologies are being used to improve the performance of poor-quality bitumen, and it has invented a new process which promises to transform recycled tyre rubber into a binder which can be used instead of bitumen.

In late 2022, one of Massenza’s long-standing customers approached the bitumen equipment manufacturer with a special request: it needed a high-capacity emulsion plant which would be located in a remote area of the Middle East. Additionally, the plant needed enhanced levels of flexibility, security and safety.

Attachment specialist Indeco notes a growing demand for products compatible with smaller-sized excavators, with the company looking to increase its range in response to this market trend.

FAE, which manufactures attachments for skid steers and excavators, is expanding its offering for road construction. The latest addition is to its family of asphalt planers was unveiled for the first time at SaMoTer 2023 in May: a 1m-wide attachment for skid steers, RPL/SSL/DT, which joins FAE’s existing three planers which are 450mm, 600mm and 750mm wide.

Carmix’s self-loading mobile concrete mixers have always been successful in developing markets and remote locations where there are no nearby static plants to supply jobsites. But now contractors are interested in reducing waste and carbon emissions in developed countries by using these small, mobile plants.
