Leading formwork manufacturers have secured some impressive contracts in Africa, as the continent’s transport infrastructure continues to improve at a rapid pace. Meanwhile, other bridgework equipment companies are also seeing their products in demand in Africa, as well as North America and Australia.

Dressta, the Poland-based LiuGong subsidiary, is developing its next generation of dozer crawlers, the first of which will be potentially available to customers sometime in 2016. A fleet of Wirtgen machines is helping build a section of a major highway in Romania, the Transylvanian Autostrada A3. This 588km road connects Romanian capital Bucharest with the Hungarian border and links to the Hungarian M4 highway. Plans for the A3 got the go-ahead in 2004 and the route runs via Ploieti, Braov, Sighioara, Târgu Mure, Cluj-Napoca, Zalau and Oradea to the Hungarian border, with completion scheduled for 2017.

In the middle of central Texas lies Blanco County, which is in the state’s Hill Country. West of Austin and north of San Antonio, the county is traversed by the Blanco River and the Pedernales River, and two major highways, US Highway 290 and US Highway 281. Because of the proximity to two major cities, the highways carry heavy traffic volumes and US 281 in particular was in need of repair.

Michelin has partnered with IRF to mark the global launch of the 50th Anniversary edition of the World Road Statistics. The World Road Statistics (WRS) have now been published every year since 1964. To mark this half-century of achievement, IRF has released a commemorative 50th Anniversary edition that compiles 12 years of data to provide a comprehensive statistical review of the evolution of international road and land transport from the dawn of the Millennium to the present day.
