Pump and dewatering specialist 3936 Xylem has developed its remote control and monitoring system, Godwin Field Smart Technology (FST), for use by contractors.

Showcased at CONEXPO-CON/AGG, the technology can reduce the resource needed to operate and maintain pumps and provide a record of the pump’s operation.

Xylem launched its first version of FST around four years ago and has provided the technology to over 350 pumps, sold and in the firm’s rental fleet. The latest iteration combines FST with the Godwin PrimeGuard 2 controller, a fully programmable microprocessor engine control system that allows for inputs from flow meters, level transducers, pressure transducers or standard floats. Whereas previously the FST allowed pumps to be turned on or off, the current system allows the speed of the pump to be changed too.

“We introduced the new capabilities around between six and 12 months ago,” said Xylem’s senior applications manager Hunter Powell. “We have a lot of customers who use it for remote locations and also customers using it in situations such as sewer bypasses, where they have to record the information.”

Remote monitoring of a pump’s performance also means that problems can be spotted sooner and the right parts dispatched for repair or maintenance. Alarms can be set to alert the remote operator when problems or failures occur.

The system runs on cellular or satellite communication so that any location can be catered for. Pump data can be accessed remotely from any device in the world with an internet connection.
