Wirtgen Group’s recycling and Hamm compacting duo

The Wirtgen Group continues to develop its presence in the Chinese road construction market, with a new Hamm soil compactor playing a key role. The 364 Wirtgen Group continues to develop its presence in the Chinese road construction market, with a new 228 Hamm soil compactor playing a key role. Built in the firm’s Chinese facility, the 318 soil compactor has been designed and developed in China to meet the needs of local customers for a quality machine at an affordable price. The 18tonne compactor features a 2.22m wide drum and can generate compaction forces of 242kN or 331kN, with power from a 153kW diesel. For many Chinese road construction and road rebuilding applications the machine can be teamed up with the recently introduced Wirtgen WR250 recycler, now being launched into China. As many Chinese roads feature a cement stabilised base, the reclaimer/stabiliser is a necessary tool and Wirtgen hopes to achieve strong sales for the WR250, which is said to be well-matched with the 318 roller to provide compaction duties. Wirtgen’s joint president Stefan Wirtgen said that the group is already seeing strong sales into China and has grown its business by some 20%, with an expectation of further market share development to come.
