Turbocharger package cuts emissions and boosts fuel efficiency

Revised turbocharger means better turbine efficiency
196 Cummins’ latest turbocharger innovation has been extended to the 500-series, with an electronically wastegated turbocharger that delivers efficiency gains of up to 8% as a result of changes to the exhaust turbine. By more closely matching turbine wheels to the compressor, greater fuel efficiency is achieveable, said the firm. The 500-series turbocharger is also said to offer improved resistance to oil leakage by 200% over the current industry standard.
Case Construction Equipment says it has improved performance of its T Series range of tractor loader backhoes, with the adoption of Tier 4 Interim compliant engines, an automatic ride control system, faster backhoe boom positioning and a choice of transmissions. The changes are said to have resulted in lower model fuel consumption, reduced emissions, increased operator comfort, higher breakout force and greater lift capacity.
The latest Cummins B6.7 Performance Series engine, delivering EU Stage V near-zero emission levels of NOx and PM, now also features Stop-Start capabilities. The Stop-Start capability cuts fuel consumption alongside overall maintenance costs. With fuel savings of up to 10%, this feature delivers benefits by reducing on-site noise and exhaust emissions.
