Revised turbocharger means better turbine efficiency
196 Cummins’ latest turbocharger innovation has been extended to the 500-series, with an electronically wastegated turbocharger that delivers efficiency gains of up to 8% as a result of changes to the exhaust turbine. By more closely matching turbine wheels to the compressor, greater fuel efficiency is achieveable, said the firm. The 500-series turbocharger is also said to offer improved resistance to oil leakage by 200% over the current industry standard.
Its incredible versatility means that the articulated dumptruck (ADT) has become a popular piece of equipment for quarrying or earthmoving applications. For quarrying in particular, the machines are highly useful as they are able to cope with steeper ramp hauls and tougher terrain than rigid haulers offering similar payloads.
Caterpillar says that its Next Generation 30tonne class excavators, the 330 and 330 GC, meet the needs of customers in emergent markets. These machines offer gains in operating efficiency, as well as lower fuel and maintenance costs and improved operator comfort.
