Tree of hope

Residents in a Polish town are hoping one local has understood a not so subtle message about his driving. The man was shocked one morning to find that rather than being parked in front of his house, his Ford Escort was now balanced somewhat precariously on top of a tree. His neighbours, tired of complaining about his appalling driving to no avail, had borrowed a crane from another resident and placed the car on top of the tree during the night. The man was understandably upset that his property had been treated this way and rang the police to complain, only to be told that they were well aware of the incident and that he should remove the car from the tree immediately or risk a fine. The removal of the car was not quite as careful as its placement on top of the tree and it ended up upside down with its roof somewhat flattened. Whether this incident will have an influence on the man’s driving remains to be seen.

The very people who urge drivers to use more caution are not immune to driving errors themselves, as the video here shows. Speed is sometimes involved and so is simply lack of due care. A speeding police car with its lights flashing and horns blaring may have the right of way, in law or by courtesy, but in many cases the police driver should take note of dangerous situations. At times police drivers also can make a simply mistake, as recently happened in the Spanish Mediterranean city of Barcelona. A

At least one of the riders in the Mexican president's police motorcycle escort may require some extra driver education classes. While riding at high speed through capital Mexico City, the lead police rider neglected to slow down before driving over a speed bump. The policeman was thrown from his heavy Harley Davidson motorcycle, although he luckily escaped serious injury. A video placed on the internet did however attract thousands of views, and it is unlikely his colleagues will soon let him
