Speedy cop

Cape Town’s police were left with red faces when a person stopped for illegal drag racing on the city’s streets turned out to be one of their own officers. A stretch of road in the city is used frequently for illegal drag racing, which the police in Cape Town are keen to crack down on due to concerns over safety. The officer has been given disciplinary charges by his employers as well as criminal charges over his dangerous driving.

    A South African cyclist suffered a serious crash during a race in his country, due to an antelope’s lack of awareness of road rules. The cyclist was knocked off his bicycle by a Red Hartebeest buck, which charged across the dirt road he was riding along. The cyclist saw the animal spring from the side of the road but there was little he could do to stop. The antelope dazedly stood up following the impact and then bounded away, apparently unhurt.     In the US a kindhearted motorcyclist put her life at risk when she saw a kitten fall out of a vehicle while she waited at the traffic lights at a busy intersection. The woman rider ran forward from her motorcycle, gesturing at vehicles to stop so as to prevent the ginger kitten from being run over. The woman handed the kitten to a passerby before returning to her motorcycle and moving it to the side of the intersection. She then collected the animal and has since taken it home, renaming it Skidmarks.

    A driver in the UK was issued with a parking ticket, when stopped at a red light. The driver was issued the parking ticket as his vehicle was spotted halted at a bus stop. After the driver appealed, the local authorities admitted that issuing the parking ticket had been a mistake. Also in the UK, a Welshman received a rather unpleasant surprise when he opened his post. He had been sent fines for driving his vehicle in a bus lane and parking illegally in London, around 400km away.
