Improved controls will help boost drilling performance for Sandvik’s new surface rigs
Designed for surface blasthole drilling, the new Pantera DPi models benefit from a redesigned control system. Equipped with an updated user interface and touch screen, the rigs are said to be easier to operate, as well as offering operators the chance to deliver higher performance. Featuring the latest user interface style from 325 Sandvik, support for new drill rig options and improved troubleshooting functions, the new control system can help boost drillhole accuracy, a key factor in reducing waste and costs in the quarrying or rock removal sectors.

There are two models in the Pantera DPi drill rig range: the Pantera DP1100i for hole sizes of 89 – 140 mm; the Pantera DP1500i for hole sizes of 102 –152 mm.

A Caterpillar top hammer rig is said to be working well in a tough granite quarry operation in the US. The MD5150C rig is out-performing down-the-hole (DTH) rigs, with higher productivity and lower fuel consumption. Of note though is the fact that the machine is also delivering comparable hole straightness to the DTH machines. • Be more productive and accurate with Sandvik's Alpha 360 drilling tool
    July 30, 2019
Sandvik says its new drilling tool system Alpha 360 is a reinforced and amplified version that complements the company’s Alpha 330 system. It can last twice as long as a standard thread in the industry. Its hole accuracy also enables higher productivity in tunneling and mine development, says Robert Grandin, product manager for underground top hammer, at Sandvik Rock Tools. The Alpha 360, with its strong tread design, is designed for hole diameters of 48-51mm in face drilling and bolting. The short thread
