The first SAB-Gate supplied by 1529 Highway Care to the UK is now in use. The 1530 Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald (BBMM) partnership installed the SAB-Gates at two strategic locations along the M4 and M5 highways, with approval from the UK's Highways Agency. The units, which are manufactured in Italy by 333 Snoline, are now in place in the central reservation at Emergency Crossing Points. On a number of sites, BBMM is replacing the existing central reserve steel barrier with concrete step barrier (CSB) and this will require Emergency Crossing Points that incorporate removable sections or gates. The SAB-Gate is a modular H2 containment gate system, which is transitioned on to the CSB. It can be easily opened by one person without the use of any special tools or the removal of any fixings. The 4.3m SAB-Gate modules can be opened either by individual sections, as a whole, or part gate from hinge positions at either end.
