Danish company 199 Delta is introducing its new RetroSign GR3 Retroreflectometer for quality control and asset management of road signs and retroreflective materials with laboratory precision.

The company says that to achieve these goals the triple geometry retroreflectometer is offered with GPS and RFID (radio frequency identification) reader.

The handheld instrument is used for measuring the retroreflection of traffic signs. It measures the coefficient of retroreflection (RA) according to US and European standards.

"The triple geometry facilitates simultaneous measurements at various observation angles as proposed by ASTM (The 3930 American Society for Testing and Materials). The RetroSign GR3 measures simultaneously at observation angles at 0.2/0.33º, 0.5º, and 1º," says DELTA.

"The point aperture geometry specified by ASTM ensures realistic and accurate readings replicating realistic driving conditions. Furthermore it enables the user to determine if a microprismatic sign sheeting material has been applied correctly.

Due to the DELTA proprietary gradient index ultra hard coating (UHC) technology the sensor response meets the ASTM 1709 requirements combining the CIE (International Commission on Illumination) eye response and CIE illuminant A." DELTA says that the RetroSign GR3 is designed to easily interface with current and future ID tagging and asset management systems, and the internal memory stores up to 250,000 readings, "which essentially means that the instrument never runs out of memory."

Fayat says that its new Multispray and Duospray systems offer effective technologies for spreading surface dressing. The Multispray system is a multi-purpose spraybar that can be fitted to spreaders and used for spraying binders and additives. The spraybar features two rows of jets, which allows the user to choose two different spread rates across the width of the roadway. This means that the carriageway and hard shoulder can be coated with different mixes, eliminating bleeding of surface dressing materials

Redflex has won approval for its fixed speed enforcement technology in Holland. The REDFLEXspeed-radar system has undergone testing by the Dutch metrology institute, NMi, and verified to meet the country’s requirements. Under extensive testing the camera was found to perform accurately at speeds from 20km/h to 320km/h. The firm claims that this is the first fixed speed enforcement system to utilise dual radar detection, maximising detection rates and eliminating anomalies such as phantom signals, reflec

Real time information on asphalt density and uniformity can boost construction quality - *Roger Roberts, GSSI. Properly compacted asphalt is a major factor in the lifespan of a road, as inadequately compacted asphalt deteriorates at a more rapid rate than properly compacted material. With the billions spent on road construction and repairs each year, it has become a matter of urgency to find new technologies that can ensure the integrity of asphalt on newly paved roads. New radio wave technology is now avai
