Electric machines from Volvo CE helped to build the World RX track in Hong Kong

The new L120 Electric wheel loader built and maintained the racetrack, which was designed by Volvo CE’s own team of experts using a combination of digital solutions and sustainable machines.

A 23tonne EC230 electric excavator was employed, using the Dig Assist digital solution and an Engcon tiltrotator. Also working to both build and maintain the tracks were two new L120 Electric wheeled loaders.

Part of the track was a replica of a design devised by Volvo CE at its test track in Eskilstuna, Sweden and built to encourage overtaking and a greater spectacle for racegoers. The design of the track has been perfected using build data captured in 3D on Volvo CE’s Dig Assist in-cab machine control application. The data was then programmed into the Volvo CE machines, reducing the build time for the track.

Volvo Construction Equipment’s new Tier 4 Final/Stage IV-compliant L250H wheeled loader has been designed to perform heavy tasks with better performance, safety and fuel economy levels using the manufacturer’s OptiShift technology. In North America the L250H is ideally suited to working with on-highway trucks, and the L250H will load a 22.7tonne tri-axle on-highway truck in just two passes. That’s two full buckets for one full truck says Volvo.

According to the Swedish manufacturer, the EC233, with a break torque of 340kNm, will be the market's most powerful tiltrotator for excavators between 24-33tonnes. The EC233 replaces Engcon’s EC30, which has been in production since the mid 1990's, notes Robert Hunt, managing director of Engcon UK. The product development cycle was focused on destructive tests where both mountings and connectors were exposed to
