Quick Rescue

Quick thinking helped in the rescue of a young boy recently in the UK. A car knocked down the young child in a traffic incident but a fast response from burly passers-by saw the vehicle actually being lifted off the child. Emergency services were quickly on scene to take the injured child to hospital and although the injuries were by no means slight, he is expected to recover.

The vehicle was parked by the roadside and had attracted the interest of many passers-by when the thief intervened and forced the owner out of the car, then drove off at speed, but police were alerted quickly.     Provisional figures available from the UK’s Department for Transport reveal a drop in road fatalities in 2012 compared with the previous year. There were 1,754 fatalities in 2012, an 8% drop from 2011 according to the DfT information. In all 195,723 were killed or injured on UK roads in 2012, a drop of 4% from 2011 while 23,039 were seriously injured a drop of 0.4%.
