The Macropaver 12E is so quiet that operators sometimes don’t realise the machine is running.

The new 360 VSS Macropaver microsurfacing machine features a Power Takeoff (PTO) drive that lowers emissions, reduces maintenance and leads to quieter operation.

The PTO drive of the Macropaver 12E replaces the side motor, something that operators notice the instant they sit in the machine. “The operator’s first reaction is, ‘How do I turn it on?’” said Doug Hogue, vice president at VSS Macropaver. “I tell them it is on. It’s very quiet.”

The machine also includes the EZ-OP monitoring system, which eliminates manual calculations by operators. Total material used is displayed per load and per project.

The system can be accessed at the jobsite or back at the office, allowing managers to track material usage and other settings. It also is a useful tool for estimators.

The move to the PTO was made to comply with Tier 4 Final standards, but other benefits have emerged – including cost savings from reduced fuel usage and from eliminating the side motor, Hogue said.

The 12E retains other key features and continues to apply high production at low costs. It applies all slurry and polymer-modified microsurfacings with equal ease.

Consistent quality is accomplished throughout the production cycle with automatic sequencing, a feature pioneered by VSS Macropaver.

The Macropaver 12E can double the application rates of competitive conventional machines, with average outputs of 2.7-3.6 tonnes per minute, the company said.

The 12D model, which still utilises a side motor, is available for countries with lower emission targets.

North America and Latin America are key markets for these machines, with Australia being one of the few territories to employ both European an
