Precise speed measurement

The sophisticated Weiss-Electronic MC2014SE offers accurate speed detection and measurement at up to 300 km/h. The sophisticated Weiss-Electronic MC2014SE offers accurate speed detection and measurement at up to 300 km/h. But unlike competing speed detection packages it also offers vehicle classification capabilities. This system can tell whether the vehicle is a truck or a car, taking into consideration the different maximum speeds allowed for varying vehicle types. The system has been homologated for use already in countries such as Germany, Italy and Argentina. An OEM version MC2014SE/AS has also been developed for Italian motorway operator Autostrade.

The average speeds between two measurement points are evaluated and the details of vehicles within the speed limit are discarded automatically. The system also works for speed limits related to weather, and two as well as four-wheeled vehicles.

Timely maintenance using proven cost-effective methods can extend the life of a highway by many years as Patrick smith reports Highways are expensive assets to construct, and the wear and tear of modern traffic means that regular maintenance will delay costly repairs or in extreme cases reconstruction. There are a number of methods of carrying out such maintenance, and these include the use of slurry seals and micro-surfacing, which are cold mixed asphalt which is a mixture of graded aggregate, asphalt emul

    March 20, 2012
Greater precision is helping blur the boundaries between GIS technology and design software While GIS map based technology has extended its range across an ever more universal spectrum of uses in the highways sector, it is increasingly showing weaknesses for engineering purposes. It is very often not accurate enough. This has not mattered previously because the GIS tool has been seen essentially as an automated version of paper based systems from the design department's point of view. Where engineers
