A VW enthusiast has gone to great lengths to recover the wreck of a particularly rare model. The VW, a 1957 Samba, had been pushed into a Swiss lake in 1974 when its previous owner became distressed at the vehicle's gearbox problems. However, the model, which features no less than 23 windows with eight in the roof alone, is one of the most sought after VW Campers and when one avid enthusiast heard of its existence, he hired a remote-controlled submersible to try to find it. After a search the submersible located the VW lying at a depth of 15m and the man then hired a crane to retrieve the vehicle. It is now undergoing a full restoration. This is not a performance vehicle however and even when fully restored its diminutive flat four configuration engine will struggle to power the VW when laden up any steep inclines or to attain highway cruising speeds.

Police in Toronto are still mystified as to how and why a stripped-out Honda was left dangling from a busy bridge. At first it was thought the car had been placed there as part of a movie shoot, but it was quickly realised that this was not the case and no request had been filed to carry out such a stunt. The car was stripped of any identification as well as many mechanical components, reducing its weight sufficiently for it to be suspended from a single cable. After a period left hanging, the vehicle was l

A man in South Carolina had a lucky escape after being trapped in his car for 33 hours after it crashed off the road in a rural area. After making a wrong turn and ending up on a gravel road, the man lost control of the vehicle despite his slow speed and the car fell 12m from the roadway. He prayed, called for help and beeped the horn repeatedly and was finally rescued after the driver of a forestry vehicle stopped nearby and heard the car horn. Emergency services were called to the scene and they were able
