Vision specialist 2879 Vitronic claims its Poliscan-surveillance and Poliscan-smart systems offer accurate and reliable automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) capabilities. The systems can be used to identify the license plates of passing vehicles and crosscheck them with a police database. When a wanted vehicle is detected, an alert is automatically sent to the authorities. Poliscan-surveillance uses a high-resolution that is triggered by a special laser-based detection unit. The system suits duties on multi-lane, high-speed traffic applications and can be mounted on bridges, poles or overhead road gantries, while a mobile version is available. The technology provides automatic monitoring of multi-lane roads 24 hours a day, and even in adverse weather conditions. Poliscan-smart is the more compact version but uses similar camera technology to produce high read rates. However its flexible design allows it to fit in concealed spaces, while it is also available as a stationary or mobile unit.
