Pavetest’s new thermal cracking test

Matest subsidiary Pavetest launched its new thermal stress restrained specimen test (TSRST) machine, the TSRST-Multi, at bauma. Designed for tests set down in the AASHTO TP10-93 and EN 12697-46 standards, the machine can test three specimens simultaneously inside a temperature-controlled cabinet which can vary in increments of 10 degrees between - 40 and +40 degrees C. “We decided to come up with a flexible approach where each station can test statically or dynamically. 282 Matest subsidiary 7955 Pavetest launched its new thermal stress restrained specimen test (TSRST) machine, the TSRST-Multi, at bauma.

And you can have any combination,” said Pavetest MD Con Sinadinos. “It’s been in development for six months.”

Sinadinos highlighted a new approach to the design of the machine, where all the refrigeration elements are isolated within one detachable unit. This means transportation costs can be lower, because certain units are not so tall, and it makes maintenance easier, he said.

Pavetest has developed its control and data acquisition system so that eight channels rather than 16 are needed, which means that a smaller control unit can be integrated into the machine. “Normally you see a mass of wires coming out of these machines. Here they are all hidden out of the way,” said Sinadinos.

Roads in the US keep failing so the Federal Highways Authority is proposing a new approach to mix design, but what does this mean for tests and testing? - Kristina Smith reports How do you test an asphalt mix for rutting? In the US, the answer could be any one of several tests, depending on which State you are in: Asphalt Pavement Analyser, Flow Number, Hamburg Wheel Tracking Test, Superpave Shear Test or Triaxial Stress Sweep Test. But that could all change. The Federal Highways Agency (FHWA), part of

Provo, Utah – The scope of the I-15 Corridor Expansion Project (I-15 CORE) in the state of Utah is nearly unprecedented because of the size of the project and the short completion deadline. When World Highways decided to ask some of the industry’s leading suppliers what the future holds for bitumen, we found out - not surprisingly in the current economic climate - that it’s all about saving money. Kristina Smith reports. How quickly the tide turns. Just two years ago, saving carbon and the planet was moving up many countries’ political agendas. Now politicians in Europe and beyond have been forced to park commitments in the face of economic austerity. “The big issue with local government is th
