Nylacast engineers discuss new uses for its plastics

Engineered plastics and bespoke polymer component specialist 736 Nylacast has brought a team of dedicated construction industry engineers to discuss potential problem solutions and new project or product ideas with interested companies at CONEXPO-CON/AGG.

Nylacast plastics are already used in a wide range of applications to improve performance, efficiency and product life. Customers include JCB, Caterpillar, BP, Shell and many vehicle manufacturers who make use of Nylacast materials to address challenges such as corrosion, wear and abrasion.

Engineered polymers can have a number of advantages over traditional materials such as steel, iron or bronze, including lighter weight (one-seventh the weight of steel), low friction, chemical resistance and self-lubrication. From simple applications such as light corrosion-resistant hose clamps, to strong and long-lasting crane pads, the plastics have proved their worth in many tough construction environments.

Nylacast will show a range of its plastics, with its engineers on hand to discuss new ways in which they can be put to use to improve construction operations.

Tolling and charging technology has evolved significantly over the last three decades and that evolution is perhaps best illustrated by reductions in or complete removal of impedances to physical progress. Once, it was customary for a driver to pull up to a barrier, make some form of cash payment to a human operative in a booth, and then wait for the barrier to be raised before proceeding. Humans were eventually complemented and

Timely maintenance using proven cost-effective methods can extend the life of a highway by many years as Patrick smith reports Highways are expensive assets to construct, and the wear and tear of modern traffic means that regular maintenance will delay costly repairs or in extreme cases reconstruction. There are a number of methods of carrying out such maintenance, and these include the use of slurry seals and micro-surfacing, which are cold mixed asphalt which is a mixture of graded aggregate, asphalt emul
