Nylacast engineers discuss new uses for its plastics

Engineered plastics and bespoke polymer component specialist 736 Nylacast has brought a team of dedicated construction industry engineers to discuss potential problem solutions and new project or product ideas with interested companies at CONEXPO-CON/AGG.

Nylacast plastics are already used in a wide range of applications to improve performance, efficiency and product life. Customers include JCB, Caterpillar, BP, Shell and many vehicle manufacturers who make use of Nylacast materials to address challenges such as corrosion, wear and abrasion.

Engineered polymers can have a number of advantages over traditional materials such as steel, iron or bronze, including lighter weight (one-seventh the weight of steel), low friction, chemical resistance and self-lubrication. From simple applications such as light corrosion-resistant hose clamps, to strong and long-lasting crane pads, the plastics have proved their worth in many tough construction environments.

Nylacast will show a range of its plastics, with its engineers on hand to discuss new ways in which they can be put to use to improve construction operations.

Using geosynthetics for soil reinforcement is highly effective but requires a high quality and trusted geogrid. When it comes to deciding which geogrid is best for a specific project, a number of product parameters must be taken into account. In the design of steep slopes, the most important parameter is the available long term design strength (Pdes). Recently, Colbond has significantly increased this factor for its high performance Enkagrid product, recognised with a newly updated BBA (British Board of Ag
