Nylacast engineers discuss new uses for its plastics

Engineered plastics and bespoke polymer component specialist 736 Nylacast has brought a team of dedicated construction industry engineers to discuss potential problem solutions and new project or product ideas with interested companies at CONEXPO-CON/AGG.

Nylacast plastics are already used in a wide range of applications to improve performance, efficiency and product life. Customers include JCB, Caterpillar, BP, Shell and many vehicle manufacturers who make use of Nylacast materials to address challenges such as corrosion, wear and abrasion.

Engineered polymers can have a number of advantages over traditional materials such as steel, iron or bronze, including lighter weight (one-seventh the weight of steel), low friction, chemical resistance and self-lubrication. From simple applications such as light corrosion-resistant hose clamps, to strong and long-lasting crane pads, the plastics have proved their worth in many tough construction environments.

Nylacast will show a range of its plastics, with its engineers on hand to discuss new ways in which they can be put to use to improve construction operations.

The PlasticRoad concept, introduced by KWS in 2015, consists of recycled plastic waste formed into lightweight modules. The hollow interiors allow for cables, plastic pipes and general drainage of water. The companies claim that the pre-fabricated units will be easy to transport, assemble and maintain. Their lighter weight means the

Protecting road users, with barriers, crash cushions or access control systems, is crucial for network safety - Mike Woof writes Tough regulations are now in place in Europe and the US, requiring road authorities to provide safer road infrastructure than in the past. Technologies to reduce the severity of vehicle impacts against obstructions or redirect vehicles into the roadway should help cut injuries amongst drivers and passengers alike. The specifications for the use of crash cushions and barriers can v
