Novel hybrid drive for backhoe loader from Bonfiglioli

Bonfiglioli has developed an innovative drive system, the 610X, for use with hybrid backhoe loaders. The 610X unit is a two-speed, hydraulically-operated drive. This offers dynamic electronic speed shifting as well as integrated parking and service brake systems. The new drive is said to be compact in construction, with an optimised electric motor design. It has an integrated speed shift that operates within the optimum range and is said to maximise efficiency. The system is now being used by Huddig

5073 Bonfiglioli has developed an innovative drive system, the 610X, for use with hybrid backhoe loaders.

The system is now being used by Huddig, a Swedish manufacturer of backhoe loaders. The drive is being fitted to Huddig’s new hybrid backhoe loader, which offers four wheel drive.  Each single drive is capable of reaching an output torque of 40,000 Nm, and is driven by a liquid-cooled 30kW electric motor. The independent control of each wheel is said to optimise operation of the machine on slippery surfaces. The new drive units are also said to be quiet in use and increase working precision, making it easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces such as compact sites in urban areas.

Advances in transmission technology will help to optimise machine performance – writes Mike Woof. As construction machines have become more sophisticated, so have the transmission systems used in items of equipment. Advances in electronics and software in particular have allowed the development of integrated transmissions. These operate more efficiently and help optimise power delivery from an engine, boosting torque response and cutting fuel consumption and emissions at the same time. The smart electronics
