A novel drainage solution called the RAUSIKKO high load box system has been developed by REHAU.

This system allows rainater to drain away to a separate spot rather into the localised area. The system can be used in applications with space constraints and suits duties in the parking areas and access roads around buildings. The system can be covered over with a road surface and then is strong enough to handle the passage of heavy vehicles.

The idea of the system is to prevent flooding close to buildings and allowing the water to be carried away elsewhere to a point where it can be disposed of without problems. The units can be laid in a trench, lined with a geomembrane and even in the event of heavy rainfall, will allow the water to be contained and channelled safely away.

Major manufacturers are introducing new machines for road milling and recycling that will boost output and lower the cost/m - Mike Woof writes New machines for milling and road recycling will offer increased performance and productivity than earlier generation equipment. Higher quality cutting will help contractors achieve smoother surfaces and considerably lower paving costs also. Meanwhile new recycler/stabiliser machines will offer a better cost/m and improve the economics of road recycling for contra

US and European asphalt paving needs are different, but some firms are bridging that gap, reports Mike Woof. With a clear differentiation between the US and European asphalt paving markets, manufacturers from the latter are now developing machines aimed at the former. The US and European markets for paving machines have developed along very different lines. North American pavers are designed for high throughputs and high paving rates, having been designed to meet a need to build roads over long distances wi

Geveko Markings says that better visibility, reduction of noise and increased road safety are the benefits its new ViaTherm LongDot road marking. ViaTherm LongDot has been developed in collaboration with Vejdirektoratet - the Danish Road Directorate – and several of its partners within the highways sector, says Geveko. Road markings everywhere are based mainly on two types of markings. The ordinary flat road marking (Type I) and the structured profiled marking (Type II). Flat markings are noiseless
