In the Australian city of Melbourne, an 18- year-old man was critically injured when he was hit by a four wheel drive vehicle. The man had been dared by his friends to stand on a freeway, wearing only his underwear for protection. The vehicle was written off in the incident although its occupants were unhurt. Local police criticised the man for his "utter stupidity" and said it was lucky that no-one was killed.

    One in every 100 people in the UK with a full driving licence has points for driving uninsured, according to a “shocking” Freedom of Information (FOI) request by the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists). For all ages the request, directed to the DVLA, revealed that one in every 200 people with a full UK driving licence had been penalised for driving without insurance. A total of 226,803 drivers in the UK were said under FOI to have points on their licence for driving while uninsured.

    A Chinese man who has been cycling around the world over a 12 year period has had to admit defeat after being deported from Somalia. The man has ridden his bicycle through 114 countries but pedalled into problems when he entered Somalia. As he had no visa, Somalian police deported him to neighbouring Djibouti. Police explained that he faced a security risk. Sourcing a visa for the country is not easy as Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991.
