Wirtgen’s new compact mills offer high performance for their class
2395 Wirtgen continues to develop its range of cold milling machines, with the addition of two new models, the W 120 Ri and the W 150 CFi. The W 120 Ri is a compact milling machine and features a milling width of 1.2 m, while it said to be the first mobile rear-loading machine on wheels. The compact W 120 Ri features the same operating concept as the existing 500mm class W 35 Ri, W 50 Ri and W 60 Ri machines already available from Wirtgen. Features include the multifunctional armrest and numerous automatic and driver assistant functions. The firm’s sophisticated LEVEL PRO PLUS levelling system is integrated into the machine control package to ensure a high quality milling finish. The machine has a large conveyor for this class and can load reclaimed asphalt pavement quickly and continuously, while it also offers high manoeuvrability and mobility on its wheeled chassis.

Moving up a size class, the front loader W 150 CFi also features a low emission Stage IV/Tier 4 Final engine with milling widths of 1.5m and depths of 330mm.The W 150 CFi is said to suite use on large job sites where space is limited, such as in urban areas. The machine has a sophisticated visibility system that is said to help operation. The machine again comes equipped with Wirtgen’s LEVEL PRO PLUS system to optimise performance. Weighing in at 20.1tonnes, the W 150 CFi can also be transported without requiring a special permit.

Time is money, especially in Scandinavia where the short road construction season makes efficiency and flexibility a key factor for machines. That's particularly true on small job sites, where work has to be completed quickly but reliably day after day. As soon as the job is done, machines must be quickly loaded and ready to speed off to the next project. That’s exactly what the W 60 Ri small milling machine from Wirtgen delivers. Two major manufacturers, Caterpillar and Wirtgen, are introducing new milling machines. Both firms say that these new, high-production units will offer increased output compared with earlier generation equipment. From Caterpillar come the new PM820, PM822 and PM825 machines, which are half-lane milling machines able to handle full-depth removal of asphalt and concrete pavements in a single pass. The firm claims that these units are highly productive and highly manoeuvrable. In operation the machines weig
