Mecalac, a designer and manufacturer of compact machines for urban worksites, has deployed three 100% electric machines on an electrification worksite in Annecy, France.

The machines were working on a site for the eventual supply of power to pleasure boats on the lake and for nearby sporting events. The initiative is in line with Mecalac's commitment to promoting environmentally friendly practices, while guaranteeing optimal performance in the field and compactness together with a full eight-hour working day for electric machines.

The French company – based in Annecy - said the project is example of the energy transition that is happening within urban environments. Mecalac's three electric machines - the e12 wheel loader, eS1000 swing loader and eMDX dumper - provide emission-free operation, meeting the growing demand for more environmentally friendly equipment solutions.

Thanks to these electric machines, this worksite benefits from a significant reduction in on-site emissions, as well as lower machinery noise levels - 10 times lower than that of their traditional thermal equivalents, according to Mecalac.

"We are proud to be taking part in this low-carbon project in a location that is particularly close to our hearts,” said Alexandre Marchetta, president of the Mecalac Group. “Our electric machines are designed and assembled locally in our Annecy plant."

Combined with other measures, such as the reuse of excavated soil, the site's projected carbon footprint is 25% lower than for an equivalent project carried out using standard methods.

The Mecalac Group, which is present in more than 80 countries, offers a wide range of excavators, wheel loaders, dumpers, backhoe loaders and roller compactors.

  • The Path to Climate-Neutral Road Construction
    October 1, 2023
Machine manufacturers and construction companies around the globe are currently searching for ways to achieve the goal of climate-neutral construction. The challenge here is to successively reduce emissions of CO2 and other harmful gases (summarized to CO2 equivalents: CO2e) around the world to zero over the coming decades. In the road construction sector, this transformation is inextricably linked to the improvement and further development of production and working processes. In the future, machines and construction materials will also be assessed based on the climate-harmful emissions arising from their production and use. However, the focus should not be on individual machines, but on the entire process leading up to the finished product – a road. Ultimately, the decisive factor is the emissions generated per kilometer of newly built or rehabilitated road – the “CO2e per work done”.

Eurovia says that it has successfully paved a 1km stretch of a French motorway using 100% recycled asphalt pavement – a global first for RAP. Eurovia said that the “fully recycled road”, done in conjunction with its parent company VINCI Autoroutes, is part of a major motorway renovation project on the A10 between Pons and Saint-Aubin in southwest France. The road is the result of two years of research and a partnership with asphalt plant equipment maker Marini-Ermont of the Fayat group. Marini-Ermont
