The MatTracker controls overlap distance between lanes to ensure good densities
8410 TF-Technologies which specialises in technology related to asphalt paving has invented a new means of ensuring asphalt density along the longitudinal joints between lanes. The MatTracker, developed just in time for bauma 2016, ensures that the lap width is correct and controls the position of the paver.

“One of the critical elements in ensuring good density at joints is to ensure that you have the correct overlap,” said TF-Technologies Lisbeth Teilmann. The MatTracker uses a NIR camera and advanced image processing algorithms to follow the edge of an existing lane of paved asphalt and controls the side plate of the screed to maintain a specific overlap.

Demand from the US market, where contractors are incentivized to achieve required densities at joints, triggered this development, said Teilmann. “We plan to bring it to the market with some of the US OEMs,” she said.

Field trials of the system, which has a patent pending, were due to begin after bauma.

3D machine controls can optimise milling efficiency, Mike Woof reports. More efficient milling and recycling operations can be carried out by using the latest 3D control systems on the market. At the last Trimble Dimensions event in Las Vegas, the advantages of 3D controls for milling operations proved a key topic. The use of 3D control systems can offer huge advantages in milling operations. This technology helps increase productivity as the milling machine will only remove what is required, which also hel

  • High performance, high mobility of wheeled pavers
    February 14, 2012
New generation wheeled pavers aimed at use in territories such as the UK, Italy, South Africa and Southern Germany are now coming to market. Pavers in these countries are often expected to be driven from one part of a site to another or for short distances, which is why the additional mobility of the wheeled machine is preferred in many instances over similarly-sized tracked models. This preference for wheeled units comes in spite of the greater stability offered by tracked machines. BOMAG, Caterpillar and
