Kiesabbau Wiedemann used the HS 845 HD to extract gravel from the gravel pit of the 2841 ARGE S 33 joint venture in Grafenwörth near Vienna. Using the dredging method around 200,000m³ of gravel and sand were extracted, temporarily stored and then loaded for further transportation.

Equipped with a powerful 350kW/469 hp six-cylinder diesel engine, Liebherr says the durable steel structure of its HS 845 HD crawler crane provides ideal conditions for the heavy duty dragline application. The company’s Litronic control system, based on CANBUS technology, incorporates all control and monitoring functions in the HS 845 HD. According to Liebherr, this  allows the machine to work reliably at extreme temperatures or humid conditions.

Additionally, the crawler crane’s electrohydraulic continuous proportional is said to enable precise and simultaneous crane movements, which are vital for dragline applications. A second swing drive increases swing torque resulting in short swing and fast loading cycles. The machine’s Interlock control system allows power lowering of the grab line when raising the dragline bucket with the hoist rope, saving energy and prolonging the working life of the hoist rope.

In the Wundschuh gravel pit, the 6130 HD model is working in dragline bucket operation. At an extraction depth of 13m the crawler crane is said to be penetrating particularly hard layers, a key reason why Gral Schotter was keen to use a duty cycle crawler crane of its size.
