The machine, from Kobelco Construction Machinery Europe, is a Japanese version, but gives an idea of what can be expected from the latest addition to the product range.

KCME says it is targeting outstanding fuel consumption with the Generation 10 base model, with savings of 15% compared with a conventional energy-efficient Generation 10 model.

The Kobelco machine’s design incorporates battery power, and the company claims that the battery can retain a greater volume of energy for longer to support higher engine output and improved fuel consumption, without compromising on the machine’s digging performance capabilities.

“Additional benefits of the Kobelco hybrid hydraulic excavator technology include its ability to even out loading on the engine, which in turn saves excess energy from light loads to assist when needed for a heavy load,” says the company.

“The intelligent machine recovers energy from swing deceleration and stores it for maximum performance and operator support.”

Kobelco Construction Machinery claims that its 21tonne hybrid excavator, the SK210H, is the world’s first lithium ion battery powered hybrid excavator. Compared to super capacitors, the Japanese maker has found that li-ion battery packs are able to retain their charge for longer, and can deliver a near-constant flow of power making engine fuel management much more efficient, while reducing spikes in operating performance. A large capacity, 200kg lithium-ion battery pack in the SK210H has the ability to d

Caterpillar has updated its hybrid crawler excavator, with the launch of the 336F H, incorporating Tier 4 Final power. The company claims that fuel savings of up to 30% are possible against the standard 336F excavator, despite the C9.3 engine achieving lower fuel consumption than the previous model. The engine has an automatic speed control system that lowers rpm during low load conditions. It also comes with an ECO mode that allows operators to tailor machine performance to the application.
