Big and back: Caterpillar’s 6015b

The new 6015B hydraulic shovel delivers a productivity advantage over other 100tonne shovels. The most powerful engine in its class, vastly improved hydraulics and a standard bucket and payload capacity of 14.6tonnes makes this a real workhorse for its size.

Caterpillar has used the best systems from other large equipment that the US company produces, such as the tracks from the D10 dozer and a cab from the best excavators. Power comes from a single Cat C27 ACERT engine rated at 606kW.

The boom and stick are made from high-strength steel and rugged castings that are joined and thermally stress-relieved to ensure longer structural life. It also makes them more resistance to impact and wear in difficult digging conditions. Box section design provides superior rigidity and strength while heavy duty castings add essential strength when handling high loads.

The 6015B is available only in a backhoe configuration right now. But a standard large 8.1m3 bucket outfitted with Cat C70 hammerless GET, helps boost production capability. It can fill a Cat 773 truck in four passes, a 775 in five passes and a 777 in seven passes. These truck models often work in heavy construction, quarry/aggregate and small to mid-size mining operations around the world.

The 6015B also has advanced Cat technology, such as MineStar, VIMS and Product Link for improved productivity, maintenance and equipment management.

At the BICES exhibition in Beijing, it was clear that the Chinese construction market has bounced back - Mike Woof writes. Demand for construction machines is now improving in China once more, with the backlog of unsold or nearly new secondhand units having been absorbed. This was apparent at the recent BICES construction machinery exhibition held in Beijing, where firms were more bullish than in previous years.
