Intercomp, a global manufacturer of portable vehicle weighing and measurement products, has launched the LTR788 Dual Platform Scale, NTEP-certified for commercial vehicle weight enforcement.

Intercomp created the LTR788 Dual Platform Scale for direct measurement of individual tyre loading in a dual-tyre configuration.

Historically, tyre failures within dual-tyre setups have occurred more frequently on inner tyres than outer tyres. However, it was also assumed that individual tyres in a dual-wheel configuration carry near equivalent loads. This was because there was no scale which could directly measure individual tyre weights.

It is now possible with the LTR788 Dual Platform Scale to identify and correct unequal weight distribution within a dual tyre configuration by setting the tyre air pressures to properly load both tyres. Using this information, operators will be able to increase road safety and avoid many common equipment failures relating to uneven tyre wear. They will also save money through improved fuel economy and decreased repair costs.

Proper load distribution through load balancing increases safety by reducing issues related to uneven wear, tyre blow outs and accidents involving overturned trucks. Overrated tyres are not only a major safety concern, but they can also cause a cascade of costly equipment failures by putting stress on the other tyres.

Every mile covered by an overrated tyre damages all other inside tyres, reducing tyre longevity. Fuel savings are also a major benefit of proper load distribution that equates to major cost savings through increased fuel milage.

With a platform height of just 22mm, the lightweight and low-profile design makes the LTR788 easy to move and simple for drivers to position the vehicle. The scale is battery operated and features a solar panel that minimises the need to manually charge the batteries. These fully electronic, self-contained, low-profile wheel-load scales can be used in sets of two-to-six scales or alongside single-platform wheel-load scales for commercial vehicle inspection operations.

Efficient night-time paving operations can reduce construction costs and cut traffic delays - *Todd Mansell writes As roads become more congested, the user cost of daytime lane closures to accommodate road construction and paving has increased dramatically. One solution to lower user costs associated with traffic delays is to carry out more paving at night during off-peak times. However night-time paving brings new challenges to producing quality work in safely.
  • High performance, high mobility of wheeled pavers
    February 14, 2012
New generation wheeled pavers aimed at use in territories such as the UK, Italy, South Africa and Southern Germany are now coming to market. Pavers in these countries are often expected to be driven from one part of a site to another or for short distances, which is why the additional mobility of the wheeled machine is preferred in many instances over similarly-sized tracked models. This preference for wheeled units comes in spite of the greater stability offered by tracked machines. BOMAG, Caterpillar and

The market for piling machines is seeing new technology come to market – Mike Woof writes UK firm BSP is now offering an improved range of piling systems, with its SL30 model and compact BH120. The SL30 can be used to drive Z piles in pairs and its hammer has a drop weight of 2.5tonnes, delivering an impact energy of 30kNm at up 84blows/minute. The SL piling hammer is designed for driving sheet piles and small bearing piles and is available with legs and inserts for use when freely suspended or with back

A wide range of innovative earthmover solutions is now coming to market - Mike Woof writes Generally with major construction equipment exhibitions timed for the second quarter of each year, this is when manufacturers will roll out their latest earthmoving solutions. However 2017 has turned out to be something of an anomaly, with the major firms continuing to unveil new models. Firms have introduced new wheeled loaders, excavators, and dozers, although arguably, some of the most interesting developments
