It’s a world premier here at INTERMAT for 236 Hyundai’s HX220L and HX380L tracked excavators, both of which are Tier 4 Final, Stage IV engine machines.

Milan Wamsteker, head of marketing for Hyundai, said the body work has had some restyling to accommodate the larger air intakes needed for Stage IV/Tier 4 Final engine performance.

There is also an optional all-around 360° external video and camera system, the HX Series. It includes a warning alert to the driver that an object is near the vehicle as well as a person who has moved closer to the machine.

Driver comfort has been greatly improved, an area where Wamsteker acknowledges Hyundai was “a couple decibels” below some competitors. But the HX220 and HX380 are top of that league.

The cab has been redesigned with a reinforced roof, new air conditioning unit and more centralized operator controls. Importantly, to speed up operator performance and reduce stress, there are 20 pre-sets for attachments where the system and engine will recall optimum operating parameters, including for hydraulic flow. This will also allow the engine to perform only according to what hydraulic pressures are needed, thereby saving fuel, said Wamsteker.

There also has been a move back to a flat front screen in the cab for a very good reason. The previously curved window gave some distortion for close up work, he said. This eliminates that potential problem.

The cab’s Eco Gauge enables economic operation of the engine, including torque, average rate of fuel consumption, total amount of fuel, and hourly and daily fuel consumption can be checked in detailed menu as well.

With all these features, Hyundai is expecting it be a “fast mover” in all countries, said Wamstecker.
