High reach demolition from Hyundai with the R520LC
236 Hyundai has revealed a high-reach demolition spec excavator at Conexpo 2014 this week, based on its 52tonne R520LC-9A. The R520LC-9A DM, as it is to be known, gets a tilting cab and a high-reach configuration that offers a working height of up to 26.1m.

The three-piece front-end uses a 13.7m boom, 2.7m intermediate arm and 8m arm, allowing a maximum working reach of 14.3M. It all adds up to a much heavier excavator and sees the R520LC-9A DM tipping the scales at 60tonnes.

Power comes from a 196 Cummins QSX11.9 interim Tier 4/Stage IIIB engine rated at 263kW. Long life components include pivot bushings designed for 250hour greasing intervals, which use polymer shims to resist wear and reduce noise.

Extended life hydraulic filters with 1,000hour service intervals and long life hydraulic oil offering a 5,000hour service life are elements that contribute to reduced operating costs for buyers of the R520LC-9A DM.

    February 7, 2013
Synthetic diamond division of DeBeers, Element Six, has developed the 3D Percussive Diamond Insert (PDI) that it claims will radically cut costs in the mining drill industry. The 3D PDI uses the firm’s polycrystalline diamond technology to optimise wear and impact resistance properties, while improving penetration rates for the drill bit. The firm claims that tests of the drill insert show up to 10 times the drill life of a conventional tungsten carbide insert., greatly reducing costly rig downtime for serv

    January 6, 2017
Cummins used bauma to reveal the QSF3.8 – a four-cylinder engine platform delivering a power range of 63-89kW – which is ready to meet Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emissions regulations. Using only SCR for its exhaust after-treatment process, the QSF3.8 avoids the need for either DOC or DPF as a result of using a high-efficiency catalyst to convert oxides of nitrogen at lower exhaust temperatures while requiring only low doses of DEF, said the company.

  • Hydrema updates 912HM dump truck
    January 6, 2017
Hydrema has revised its 912 range of articulated dump trucks, with a move from Perkins power to a Cummins Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB motor. The QSB4.5L engine delivers 105kW of power, up 8% on the previous model, but more importantly has 20% more torque, at 620Nm. Despite the increased output, Hydrema claims similar fuel consumption to the previous ADT line-up. The engine sits beneath a redesigned canopy that lifts clear of the chassis to provide easy access to the engine and driveline. The trucks also feat
