233 Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) has introduced the ZV-R and lightweight ZV-RLS series of vibratory rammers to its new range of light compaction equipment. Described as ideal for working in a variety of applications, including foundations and trenches in soil or sand, the models’ robust and compact design makes them extremely versatile, efficient to maintain and easy to transport between job sites.

The Hitachi ZV-R and ZV-RLS series of vibratory rammers are user-friendly and offer a high power output – with improved propulsion. Easily manoeuvrable, the products also offer powerful compaction force, making them ideal for confined working conditions.

In addition to an easy to use throttle lever, the ZV-R models come equipped with a low-vibration handle and visible oil gauge. The ZV-RLS series features a lightweight body, easy-to-maintain engine oil and air cleaner, and Pipe Guard engine protection.

These features – combined with the centralised location of the controls and convenient engine-off switch – help improve the overall safety and performance of the rammers.

The ZV-R and ZV-RLS models include many common components. The crank, handle and cylinder units, and ramming shoe allow efficient servicing and are easily replaceable, minimising any potential downtime.

The rubber isolator has a high capacity for vibration damping and a built-in stopper system to reduce stress applied during operation. These useful features decrease the likelihood of wear and increase service life.

More sophisticated compaction technologies are now coming to market, offering a wide range of benefits to users While asphalt paving techniques vary widely between North America and Europe, there is greater commonality in the compaction methods required. New developments in compaction rollers are offering contractors using both North American and European style paving techniques major gains in quality. According to Robert Horan, a regional engineer for the US-based Asphalt Institute, intelligent compact
