“A simple change of hydraulic fluid can help save fuel, even—and particularly—in used construction machines,” says Rolf Fianke, technology aftermarket support manager at Evonik.

In Italy, Nuova Ghizzoni, an Italian pipeline contractor, switched its entire fleet of hydraulic excavators to a fluid formulated with Dynavis technology supplied by a Dynavis licensee. The switch was a move away from conventional single-grade and multigrade oils.

Evonik says it has also teamed up with several global partners, including the French mineral oil multinational 344 Total, Indian energy giant Indian Oil Corporation, American lubricant specialists such as Schaeffer Oil and Hermann Bantleon, a German producer of lubricants. Common to all these lubricant marketers is goal of more market share in the high-end hydraulic fluids sector.

The Dynavis brand doesn’t represent a hydraulic fluid, but rather a technology, and a complete package of formulation support and global services, using an additive that improves the viscosity index of hydraulic fluids. Evonik claims that fuel savings of up to 10% are achievable, with up to 30% under extreme loads.

Contractors can realise substantial fuel savings and productivity gains through the use of a new hydraulic fluid, said DYNAVIS. DYNAVIS is making its inaugural trade show appearance in North America at Conexpo 2014. The company has provided contractor case studies that show fuel savings of 5% to 10%, with some reporting savings of 30%. The contractors also report a “noticeable improvement” in performance. One contractor said he achieved $8,000 in measurable savings that he attributed to switching his hydr
  • Dynavis technology is a winner for hydraulic fluid performance
    March 13, 2017
Dynavis demonstrated how its formulated fluid technology can improve the performance of hydraulic systems at CONEXPO-CON/AGG. More usually deployed in demanding construction and mining applications, Dynavis formulated fluid was added to a small hydraulic system connected to an exercise bicycle and put head to head with a similar system filled with a standard fluid. Show visitors could mount the bicycles and test the comparative performance of the Dynavis technology for themselves.
  • Manufacturers push hybrid driveline technology
    January 6, 2017
Driveline technology continues to develop rapidly, with many manufacturers at this year’s Conexpo exhibition showing Tier 4 Final emissions solutions, along with a host of fuel saving transmissions and hydraulic systems, all aiming to reduce operating costs for the customer. However, while there was certainly a hybrid presence at the show, things haven’t perhaps moved forward as fast as many had expected.
