Built from an Enfield 8000 electric car, the performance showed a marked increase over the original design with its top speed of 64km/h. The owner fitted new lithium ion batteries to replace the original lead acid type units, as well as a much more powerful motor. Nicknamed the Flux Capacitor after the DeLorean sports car in the Back to the Future films, the modified Enfield 8000 is thought to be the fastest street legal, all-electric vehicle in the world. The Enfield 8000 features a tubular chassis frame with aluminium body panels. It has suspension parts from the British Hillman Imp, doors adapted from a Mini and a rear axle derived from a Reliant three-wheeler.

Kobelco Construction Machinery claims that its 21tonne hybrid excavator, the SK210H, is the world’s first lithium ion battery powered hybrid excavator. Compared to super capacitors, the Japanese maker has found that li-ion battery packs are able to retain their charge for longer, and can deliver a near-constant flow of power making engine fuel management much more efficient, while reducing spikes in operating performance. A large capacity, 200kg lithium-ion battery pack in the SK210H has the ability to d
