Dana’s efficient transmission for graders

5378 Dana Rexroth Transmission Systems has announced that the long-drop vision of its hydromechanical variable transmission (HVT) is now available for pre-production testing in grader applications. Its powersplit architecture and functionality as a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is said to enable the engine to operate at its peak efficiency for duty cycles ranging from precise, low-speed finish grading to high-speed snow removal and long-distance road grading.

In addition, the machine has designed to reduce complexity for equipment manufacturers with gears, clutches and hydrostatic units managed by an advanced electronic control unit.

The improved version of the HVT2 supports engine ratings up to 235kW applications with high power takeoff torque requirements such as empty container handlers, reach stackers and other material-handling applications.

A short-drop version of the HTV2 is also available. It features a modular configuration with a redesigned transmission case to reduce the input/output distance.

The system also comes with an engineered software architecture to support fuel-saving capabilities.

Stricter emissions legislation mean that new engine technology and integrated drivetrain systems are being developed. With the Tier 3/Stage IIIA emissions legislation now in place in North America and Europe, the major engine manufacturers already have an array of solutions on the market. The coming Tier 4 interim/Stage IIIB legislation will be tougher still and most firms are well in hand with their plans to use both in-cylinder and exhaust after-treatment technology. While engines themselves are staying b
