Dana has completed its purchase of Brevini’s power transmission

Driveline specialist 2254 Dana has completed its purchase of Brevini’s power transmission and fluid power business.

Exhibiting the combined product line at CONEXPO-CON/AGG for the first time, the acquisition has allowed Dana to move from wheeled drivelines to include tracked machinery and auxiliary drive systems.

The line-up now includes planetary track drive motors as well as wheel motors, planetary gearboxes, slew motors, hydraulic pumps and valves. At the show the company also launched a line of Brevini motor/winch drives for crane applications, along with Brevini twin-shaft industrial gearbox systems for use in asphalt and concrete mixing applications.

    November 14, 2016
In recent years developments in engine technology have played a key role with regard to improved machine performance. Diesel engine makers have had to meet a challenging schedule in terms of delivering new low emission engine technology and meet tough regulatory requirements for the US and Europe. Along with the cleaner emissions have come improved fuel economy and increased power density, allowing customers to meet the power needs of their machines with smaller and more economical engines. At the same time

Advances in transmission technology will help to optimise machine performance – writes Mike Woof. As construction machines have become more sophisticated, so have the transmission systems used in items of equipment. Advances in electronics and software in particular have allowed the development of integrated transmissions. These operate more efficiently and help optimise power delivery from an engine, boosting torque response and cutting fuel consumption and emissions at the same time. The smart electronics
  • Manufacturers push hybrid driveline technology

Driveline technology continues to develop rapidly, with many manufacturers at this year’s Conexpo exhibition showing Tier 4 Final emissions solutions, along with a host of fuel saving transmissions and hydraulic systems, all aiming to reduce operating costs for the customer. However, while there was certainly a hybrid presence at the show, things haven’t perhaps moved forward as fast as many had expected.
