Dana’s new axle/gearbox system is designed for use on soil compactors

2254 Dana Incorporated is launching an optimised axle/gearbox combination for small and medi-um-sized single drum rollers. It is designed with the intention of enabling original-equipment manufacturers to use more compact hydraulic components while maintaining optimal performance.

The solution includes the Spicer 192 rigid planetary axle, a Brevini CTU gearbox and Brevini SH Series variable displacement hydraulic motors. It is said to enable the use of an axle with a high reduction ratio, which increases the power available to the rest of the system.

A range of products is currently available for both single and tandem drum roller applica-tions ranging from 4.5 - 23 tonnes. These include rigid planetary axles, gearboxes, drum drives, fixed and variable displacement hydraulic motors, vibration motors, gear pumps, piston pumps, valves, and associated electronic controls.

    April 23, 2018
Hamm is claiming a first with its hybrid 9 tonne HD+ 90i PH tandem roller. The German manufacturer believes that it is the first roller manufacturer to develop a production-ready machine. Most hybrid solutions, as in the case of cars, combine an internal combustion engine with an electric motor. Hamm has instead combined an internal combustion engine with a hydraulic system for the tandem roller. Although the maximum load is used regularly for compacting, it is always just for a few seconds at a time.
