Cummins Guidanz app provides real-time support

As part of its connectivity focus, 196 Cummins revealed a user-friendly, engine data analytic app at CONEXPO-CON/AGG for its off-highway customers. It becomes commercially available next month.

Called Cummins Guidanz, the app enables remote monitoring of any Cummins engine that meets Tier 3 or later emissions standards, to provide instant recognition and reading of fault codes.

“This service is designed to speed up diagnosis of fault codes, and enable service centres to make a first-time fix when visiting equipment on-site,” explains Steve Nendick, Cummins global marketing communications director for off-highway.

“It enables operators to provide critical information relating to an engine fault, rather than having to wait for a service technician to visit a machine to diagnose a fault code. And this is important where customers are restricted to staying within their job site for maintenance and repairs.”

The app can be downloaded to smart phones and tablets using iOS and Android platforms, and needs to be paired with a Bluetooth adapter which is plugged into the engine’s ECM (electronic control module). The Bluetooth adapter is said to cost around $200.

Any recorded fault code can be emailed directly from within the app. The app also provides service centre locations, and it allows operators to connect directly with Cummins Care, who can initiate the repair process.

In addition, Cummins Guidanz also offers immediate assessment scheduling through certified service providers, if a machine can be driven there.

“The app can reduce the diagnostic process from what may have taken a few hours, down to a few minutes,” he said.
