DYNAVIS is making its inaugural trade show appearance in North America at Conexpo 2014. The company has provided contractor case studies that show fuel savings of 5% to 10%, with some reporting savings of 30%. The contractors also report a “noticeable improvement” in performance.

One contractor said he achieved $8,000 in measurable savings that he attributed to switching his hydraulic fluids.

DYNAVIS said technology developed by their scientists leads to the gains. “DYNAVIS technology focuses on formulating hydraulic fluids that meet higher performance standards,” said Rolf Fianke, DYNAVIS after market support manager.

At Conexpo, the DYNAVIS display includes a specially designed simulator that gives visitors a strong impression of the difference the technology makes, including consistent power across multiple functions. “When visitors to the stand jump on the simulator, they feel the power of a hydraulic fluid formulated with DYNAVIS technology,” said Fianke.

Chemical company Evonik has formulated an additive pack that creates multi-grade hydraulic oil for excavators. It is said to deliver a significant improvement in fuel efficiency compared to traditional mono-grade hydraulic oils. It’s called Dynavis and the key, said Evonik, is a clever viscosity improver that prevents aeration, which can cause cavitation and a loss of performance in hydraulic pumps. Hyundai Heavy Industries is showcasing a hydraulic hybrid machine at bauma. The R220-LC Hi-POSS is a 22tonne-crawler excavator with a system that allows brake energy to be used for other functions. Hi-POSS stands for Hyundai intelligent power optimal sharing and energy saving. “This is the most novel thing we have,” said Hyundai product engineer Joachim Van de Perre. “With a conventional excavator, when you brake, the energy heats the hydraulic oil. Here we use the energy to perform another task with the ma
