JCB has a ‘one can’ solution for Tier 4 Final.
255 JCB Power Systems revealed its complete US EPA Tier 4 Final emissions solution at Conexpo for the Ecomax engine.

Using highly efficient combustion technology, the 4.4litre and 4.8litre Ecomax engines meet the required standards without the use of a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

JCB’s Ecomax engines have also been recalibrated for Tier 4 Final, resulting in a further 5% fuel saving compared to previous models.

A compact selective catalytic reduction (SCR) solution with a urea-based additive will be used on engines above 55kW. The SCR catalyst is incorporated into a single exhaust silencer, in most cases replacing the existing exhaust box, to provide a ‘one can’ solution.

It is a solution that remains compact, posing no further problems to install in a wide variety of machines without costly modifications to bodywork.

The range also includes four-cylinder Ecomax engines for industrial power units and G-Drive installations for generators and portable power equipment.

JCB said these engines have been specifically designed for the US market to meet EPA requirements, and lower Tier variants are available for less regulated markets.

Perkins will showcase a complete line-up of Stage IV/Tier 4 Final engine solutions at Bauma, ahead of the new legislation next year. The four cylinder 854F-E34TA will demonstrate much of the technology on offer, as it uses Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) with an exhaust additive, plus a Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC). Both Perkins’ 3.4 and 4.4-litre engine lines make do without a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), though the larger 7 litre will use a DPF as well.
