In the UK town of Dartford a driver’s dashcam caught footage of a clever cat using a pedestrian crossing. The driver saw the animal waiting to cross and stopped, with an oncoming vehicle doing the same. With the feline safely across, both cars were then able to proceed.

Meanwhile elsewhere in the UK, a cat had a very lucky escape after being rescued from a van’s engine bay. The driver had been at the wheel for around three hours when he heard a curious noise emanating from the engine compartment. He stopped to investigate only to find a very distraught cat squeezed into a small space behind the air filter. The man was able to persuade the cat into his arms and commented that its paws were very hot and he then gave it some water before proceeding on with his journey, and with the animal in the cab. A few phonecalls were made to a contact at his point of departure and it was soon established who the owner of the cat was, with the animal later being returned unharmed.

The highway of the future will not be a physical asset created and maintained by the construction industry … it will increasingly be seen as part of an emerging global services sector. “Every day we hear about Mobility as a Service (MaaS), but what about Roads as a Service?” says Christophe Nicodème, general director of the European Union Road Federation (ERF). “The role of the road is changing. We need to think much more carefully about planning (highway) infrastructure in terms of people’s needs. We must

The man, a delivery truck driver, opted to pursue an ambulance speeding through his town as other vehicles moved aside to let the emergency vehicle past. The dimwitted delivery driver thought his exploit so clever, he filmed himself doing so and then posted the clip online on a popular social media website, where it attracted thousands of views. The driver claimed to have been driving safely, despite the vide

Sure, it’s a spectacular run down a mountain road. But it’s also an extremely visual reminder that highway infrastructure is important for work and play. Let’s not forget that the road - in this case Switzerland’s Grimsel Pass, 2,164m - has to be smooth enough for Jean Yves “Rollerman” Blondeau to reach those speeds without being chucked over edge and down a cliff. The pass is a driver’s delight as it crosses the continental divide in the Alps where rivers flow one way towards the North Sea and the ot
