Caterpillar introduces more productive wheeled loaders

Caterpillar has designed its 980M and 982M wheeled loaders for fast loading purposes. The 982M can load an on/off-highway trucks in two passes and is powered by a Tier 4 Final compliant C13 diesel rated at 292kW, while it shares features with the 980M model which is powered by a C13 diesel rated at 288kW. 178 Caterpillar has designed its 980M and 982M wheeled loaders for fast loading purposes. The 982M can load an on/off-highway trucks in two passes and is powered by a Tier 4 Final compliant C13 diesel rated at 292kW, while it shares features with the 980M model which is powered by a C13 diesel rated at 288kW. Compared with the 980M aggregates handler, design changes in the 982M’s frame, linkages, hydraulics, power and powertrain extend its application range to sand and gravel and earth bank excavation and even face loading in shot rock applications.

The new 980M and 982M have engines featuring a combination of proven electronic, fuel, air and after-treatment components. System integration has resulted in reduced emissions, improved performance and improved fuel economy without interrupting machine performance making it seamless to operators. The 982M has longer standard lift arms than the 980M, with a full range of bucket sizes and types as well as other available work tools.

The 980M and 982M powertrains have lock-up clutch torque converters as standard and are matched with the engine and hydraulics to improve performance and fuel efficiency. Integration of the new features and further axle and hydraulic improvements result in 10% lower fuel consumption on average compared to the 980K and 980K 12-ton configuration. The 982M has larger lift and tilt cylinders than the 980M due to the new longer lift arms for the larger payloads it is designed to handle.

In the cab, new larger convex mirrors improve visibility to the rear and integrated spot mirrors provide visibility close to both sides of the machine. A new colour screen displays machine controls, rearview camera and the new CAT Production Measurement tool, which allows operators and managers to access machine data including payload, fuel consumption, engine idle time and operating hours. Depending on specification, the 980M weighs from 29.8-34.3tonnes and is available with bucket capacities from 4.3-12.3m3 while the 982M weighs from 34.2-36.2tonnes and is offered with bucket capacities from 4.7-14.35m3.

Caterpillar Paving is introducing its AP1000E and AP1055E pavers, which replaced the earlier D-Series machines. The machines are said to be able to place smooth mats and deliver high-production as well as redirecting fumes away from operators. The AP1000E is a wheeled model while the AP1055E is the tracked version of the same basic machine. Productivity is provided in part through the heavy-duty screed designs offered, with customers able to choose between the AS2302C, AS3301C, AS4251C and AS4252C.
